A New Approach towards GNSS Receiver Comparison in Multipath Environments.

A new approach is presented to describe the measurement conditions for dynamic scenarios within one quantity: the degree of receivability. The developed methodology is based on a function composed of the theoretical horizontal dilution of precision (HDOP) and the ratio of non line of sight satellites to all visible satellites. Three scenarios are presented: open sky scenario, one side shadowed scenario and urban scenario. Based on this methodology every test run can be characterized by its degree of receivability. This enables classifying the environmental conditions during GNSS receivers’ quality assessment and enabling the comparability of multiple GNSS receivers testable at different time and in different environmental scenarios. This methodology provides guidance to the end-users for the selection of the most suitable GNSS receiver for specific applications.
